After conducting in-depth research into the communal sector, Talitha Pharma® was conceived with a clear purpose: to fill the gaps identified in this unique market. While the founder's background in business—bolstered by an MBA—provided a strong foundation, he quickly realized that specialized expertise in veterinary science, community development, and farming was crucial to the company’s success.

Talitha Pharma® was launched in August 2013, and we’ve since developed a Livestock Health and Production (LHeaP) Programme. Tailored for both traditional and modern farmers, whether they farm commercially in communal areas or on designated commercial farms, this program guarantees enhanced yields in lambing, kidding, and calving, leading to higher weaning rates and more profitable outcomes for farmers

The Name: Talitha

Talitha is a name rich in meaning, embodying the spirit and qualities that inspire us. Derived from the Gospel of Mark;

Jesus' words, “Talitha cumi”— “Little girl, I say to you, arise”—capture the miraculous power of transformation.

The name also connects to the stars, referencing two celestial bodies in the Ursa Major constellation that symbolize excellence and brilliance. In Arabic, Talitha represents “the third leap of a gazelle,” a graceful expression of vitality, agility, and environmental awareness. These layered meanings make Talitha a symbol of inspiration and purpose

Ayanda Mbotshelwa

Founder & Group CEO

Ayanda's journey began in the 1970’s in the Eastern Cape, where he was exposed to a blend of rural and township life, that instilled in him a deep appreciation for cultural diversity, shaping his values and ambitions. After completing his studies in Medical Technology and gaining experience in the medical field, Ayanda ventured into the pharmaceutical industry, where he gained extensive experience in sales, brand and marketing management. Through his work, Ayanda was exposed to industry leaders and specialists, both locally and internationally, which sparked his entrepreneurial vision

In 2012, Ayanda founded Talitha Pharma® with the goal of addressing critical gaps in the communal farming sector. Drawing on his experience in veterinary pharmaceutical solutions, Talitha Pharma® developed a Livestock Health and Production Programme specifically for communal and smallholder farmers, which guarantees increased yields in calving, lambing, kidding, weaning, and wool production. Ayanda’s commitment to empowering farmers with sustainable, innovative solutions has been recognized both within the industry and beyond.

While leading a fast-growing venture, Ayanda was honoured with the Best Entrepreneur and the Raizcorp Blue Heart awards in 2017, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in the field. Ayanda’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, earned in 2015, played a pivotal role in refining his business acumen, enabling him to successfully navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship and drive the continued growth and impact of the Talitha® group of companies.
